The Watertown Tennis Association is an organization that allows interested people to not only play tennis, but to interact socially with other members. Many members play year after year and remain friends with others even when the cold Wisconsin winter blows in. The competition is good, but if you come and watch any of our matches on Wednesday nights at Brandt-Quirk Park, you will also see that we have a lot of fun as well.

The league currently has three levels of play:
Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner. Not sure what level you're at? Take a look at the descriptions below to get an idea of what each level is like. If you are still unsure and you pick a level that isn't right for you, you can always change levels next year for common competition.

  • Beginner: Able to sustain a rally, place some shots, and get serves into play.
  • Intermediate: Improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but not as consistent as advanced level. First serve should have good pace.
  • Advanced: Good shot placement, consistent groundstroke rally, and consistent serve. Good use of volleys and overheads as well.

(Please note that if there are not enough members interested in a particular level, you may have to be moved to another skill level.)

Matches are held at Brandt-Quirk Park starting in May and ending in August. The 2007 season begins May 16th and ends August 23. Most women’s doubles matches will be scheduled at 6pm, mixed doubles at 7pm and 8pm, and men’s doubles at 8pm and 9pm.

Singles matches are played Thursday nights. Women's singles matches are scheduled at 6:30pm and men's singles are at 8pm. If you cannot play or do not want to play at this designated time, you are certainly free to play anytime as in previous years, but you MUST call your scheduled opponent to set up another time. If you do not show up Thursday night or call ahead of time (24 hours), you will be subject to forfeit.

In addition to regular match play, there are doubles, mixed doubles, and singles tournaments spread out during the season. There is also a mixed doubles tournament that takes place during Watertown Riverfest weekend in August and is open to anyone, including nonmembers. On the first night of the season and every Wednesday prior to a tournament, there are "coolers". Beverages and snacks are provided by the WTA and members are welcome and encouraged to stick around after their matches to watch others play and get to know one another.

We all have a lot of fun with the WTA. If you or someone you know would be interested in joining us, please check out the "Join the WTA" page or call 262-0056 to get more information.
