Below are some of the WTA "rules" for Wednesday night doubles
matches, Thursday night singles matches, and scoring information.
Also, there have been a few questions regarding some basic
rules of the game and also an appropriate code of conduct on the courts.
For some good information on this please see the following links: www.usta.com/rules or www.tennisserver.com.
Click on the links to “Rules” and “The
Code”.
Let’s all try to keep it fun and fair out there!
Wednesday Night Doubles Matches
- Women’s doubles matches are scheduled at 6pm using all
10 courts. Women's Doubles Beginner group has one match each week at 7pm. (11 total matches, only 10 courts per hour)
- Mixed doubles matches are scheduled at 7pm or 8pm. (9 matches
at 7pm and 3 at 8pm)
- Men’s doubles matches are scheduled at 8pm or 9pm. (7 matches
at 8pm and 2 at 9pm)
- Schedule sheets – the first number is the opponent, the second number is the match time. Women’s doubles advanced and intermediate only lists opponent since all matches are at 6pm for these matches. Women’s doubles beginner has one match at 7pm each week.
- Use regular ad scoring. The team with the most games at the end
of the hour wins.
- Discuss with your opponents prior to the match how
to handle a match that is tied near the end of your time (tie breaker,
or just play one more game). No ties please.
- Allow all scheduled matches to start play first, and then start
a make-up or pick-up match if courts are available.
- Play is scheduled for 1 hour, including warm-up. Plan to be done
at the end of the hour.
- If you know you can’t play your match, call AT LEAST 24
hours before your scheduled time to reschedule, or
forfeit the match. Please be considerate of your fellow
members by following this rule.
- Substitutes – If one doubles player will be gone, you can
find a sub rather than reschedule the match. Remember, substitutes
can’t play at a level lower than their designation.
- Deadline for turning in scores: August 26.
Thursday Night/Round Robin Singles
- All women’s singles matches are scheduled at 6:30pm (using
6 courts)
- All men’s singles matches are scheduled at 8pm (using 5 courts)
- Schedule sheet – An asterisk (*) in your row means it is your responsibility to provide balls.
- If you cannot or do not wish to play on the Thursday scheduled,
you MUST contact your opponent AT LEAST 24 hours before
the scheduled match time. If you do not make contact to set up a different
time/day, your opponent has the right to claim a forfeit. This new
scheduled night does not mean that all singles matches must be played
Thursday nights as scheduled. Matches can still be set up to be played
anytime, but you must call first or be expected to play on your scheduled
Thursday evening.
- Play is scheduled for 1 ½ hours, including warm-up. You can
choose to play a 10 game set or best of 3 sets, but keep in mind that
if you are playing the women's 6:30 time slot, there may be a match scheduled
after yours at 8pm . If you are concerned about time restriction, feel
free to call your opponent to set up a different day/time.
- Decide before your match what scoring you will use and how you will
handle a tie.
- Deadline for turning in scores: August 26.
Match Results
- It is the responsibility of the winning person or team to report
the match results. If using the score sheet kept at the courts, circle the
number in your row and cross out the number in your opponent's row.
- You can report results to our scorekeeper, Vicki. Her email addresss is: vickilarsen@charter.net.
You can also call her at 261-7243 to
report your results.
- Deadline for reporting results is August 26th . After
that, any matches not played will be considered losses.
- Trophies or awards (awards TBD) are given to the 1st and 2nd place
winners of each category and level of play at the annual awards gathering.
Substitutes
Sign up on the registration form if you want to be designated as a
substitute. If you need a substitute for a doubles match, refer to
the membership list, but remember that subs can’t play at a level
lower than their designation.
Coolers
On the Wednesday and Thursday before each tournament (subject to change or weather),
the Association supplies beverages and snacks at the courts. This
provides an opportunity for everyone to relax and get to know fellow
club members. Dates of the coolers are: May 16-17, June 6-7, July 4-5, and
August 1-2.
